macro violet Mountain mint 31. October 2025 / 1. March 2026 by Hagen Wendt Clinopodium nepeta I discovered this really tiny flower on a mountain road in Verga, Greece. After I saw the finished picture I had to laugh because the flower looks like a little boo! ghost. That’s why the presentation tonight on Helloween evening makes total sense. Read more » violet
violet Water mint 19. August 2025 / 31. May 2026 by Hagen Wendt Mentha aquatica Water mint, also known as brook mint, has a pleasant scent and prefers damp conditions. I discovered this specimen on the lakeside path in Munich’s Westpark. It is also considered a medicinal plant, e.g., for side stitches. I like this motif very much because it looks as if the flower is grinning over […] Read more » violet
macro violet Phacelia 20. October 2024 / 2. January 2026 by Hagen Wendt Phacelia tanacetifolia The phacelia naturally has very beautiful, albeit very small, flowers, but it probably owes its distinctive name to its tufted flower buds. I discovered this specimen in a sunflower field behind my brother’s house. A very complex form, which made the processing correspondingly complex. But it was worth it! Read more » violet
macro violet Rattle Flower 29. June 2024 / 31. May 2026 by Hagen Wendt Catananche caerulea When I encountered this flower at the State Garden Show in Kirchheim this summer, it made no sound. However, its dried seeds are said to produce rattling sounds in the wind. But it is by no means inconspicuous, as it is also known as Cupid’s Dart or Blue Cupid’s Dart – the flower […] Read more » violet
macro violet Greater Burdock 20. June 2024 / 31. May 2026 by Hagen Wendt Arctium lappa I discovered this violet-blooming burdock on Kapuzinerstraße in Munich and photographed it on site. A bee crawled across the flower and became completely covered in pollen. I think both the burdock and the bee were very satisfied. The green-white-violet color combination looks truly magnificent from the bee’s perspective. The next time you have […] Read more » violet
macro violet Chocolate Vine 14. April 2024 / 31. May 2026 by Hagen Wendt Akebia quinata To mark the European Football Championship, I have selected the roundest blossom I have encountered to date. We discovered it in the Munich Rose Garden. Neither chocolate nor wine grows on this climbing plant. Another name is the five-leaf akebia, though that sounds even more far-fetched. The male-shaped follicle is particularly interesting, making […] Read more » violet
macro violet Aster 29. October 2023 / 31. May 2026 by Hagen Wendt Aster Koraiensis I also discovered this aster at the end of October in the Munich Rose Garden. There were hundreds of them standing together—an unmistakable blue-violet feast for the eyes! The yellow-orange ray florets in the center surround the tubular florets and are just beginning to unfold. Read more » violet
macro violet Periwinkle 10. August 2023 / 31. May 2026 by Hagen Wendt This blossom caught my eye last summer in Normandy, near Omaha Beach. I initially thought it was quite exotic, yet it also thrives splendidly in Munich. The name is exceptionally ill-chosen here, as it is not evergreen, like (almost) all plants. And it belongs to the dogbane family, which not only dogs should take seriously. […] Read more » violet
macro violet Cornflower 9. August 2023 / 31. May 2026 by Hagen Wendt Capturing this knapweed photograph was quite labor-intensive, as I aimed to include the lower structures as well. The inner structure is completely asymmetrical, which, in my view, makes the motif even more captivating. Read more » violet
