Eryngium planum

For Men’s Day, I am featuring a very common, thistle-like flower which, despite its beautiful name, is hardly suitable as a symbol of fidelity. This is due to its terribly prickly nature. The name is more likely based on its reputed aphrodisiac properties.

Of all the Sea Holly photos, this is my best, as the white pollen here seems to literally explode – and the inflorescence has not yet been smeared by any bee.
